Slow Connection with WebRunner

If you experience a slow connection while using WebRunner, please try the following:

Possible Solutions

A. Adjust your browser settings (Internet Explorer)
B. Adjust your acceleration speed
C. Keep using WebRunner

A. Adjust your browser settings (Internet Explorer)

If you are using Internet Explorer, try the following:
1. Open Internet Explorer, go to the Tools menu, and select Internet Options.
2. In the Temporary Internet Files section, click the Settings... button.
3. Make sure Check for newer versions of stored pages is set to Automatically.
4. In the Amount of disk space to use for your temporary Internet files, make sure the slider is set to a level that allows efficient storing of pages on your hard drive. You should try to allow at least 500 MB, depending on the size of your hard drive.
5. Click OK and OK to exit.

B. Adjust your acceleration speed

1. Right-click the WebRunner icon in the system tray at the lower right of your screen (or click on the word WebRunner on the WebRunner toolbar) and select Settings.
2. Adjust the slider on the Settings screen. The further to the left, the slower the acceleration. The further to the right, the faster the acceleration. Please ensure that you move the slider to the fastest acceleration.
Please note that this will increase your speed to its maximum, it will lower the quality of pictures you view on the Web.

If, at any time, you would prefer to see an original, uncompressed image on a Web page you visit using WebRunner, right-click the image and select Show Original Image on the menu that appears. Please note that in Internet Explorer 5.0 and 5.5 browsers, this option may not work with all images.
You can also choose to display all of the images on a page without compression. To do this, right-click any image and select Show All Original Images in the menu that appears. This option works with all images in all browsers.

C. Keep using WebRunner

Be sure to continue using WebRunner regularly for a few days - the service will improve its efficiency with prolonged usage.

Adjusting WebRunner Acceleration Speed

Most of the time required to display a Web page consists of downloading graphics on that page to your computer. WebRunner is able to significantly speed up these graphic downloads by compressing graphics. This lowers the file sizes of the images, making Web pages load faster. You can adjust how fast you want pages to load by adjusting the level of graphic compression and/or number of colors displayed.

To adjust acceleration speed:

1. Right-click on the WebRunner icon in the system tray at the lower right of your screen and select Settings.

2. Adjust the slider on the Settings screen. The further to the left, the slower the acceleration. The further to the right, the faster the acceleration.

Viewing original images

If, at any time, you would prefer to see an original, uncompressed image on a Web page you visit using WebRunner, right-click the image and select Show Original Image on the menu that appears. Please note that in Internet Explorer 5.0 and 5.5 browsers, this option may not work with all images.

You can also choose to display all of the images on a page without compression. To do this, right-click on any image and select Show All Original Images on the menu that appears. This option works with all images in all browsers.

How do I start WebRunner?

WebRunner automatically starts whenever you connect to the internet. You will know that it is started because a icon will appear in your system tray at the lower right of your screen.

If this icon does not appear, then WebRunner has not been properly installed.

If the icon does appear, but displays with a red WebRunner Running Man Icon, either you have not purchased the WebRunner service for the account that you logged on with, or there is a technical problem preventing you from using WebRunner.

How do I Disable WebRunner?

You can temporarily disable WebRunner by right-clicking on the WebRunner icon in the system tray on the lower-right of your screen, and choosing Stop WebRunner Acceleration. The WebRunner Running Man will turn red.

WebRunner can be later re-enabled from the same menu, if desired. It will also be automatically re-enabled the next time you log on to the internet.

- "Internet Explorer is trying to connect to webrunner.net [IP Address] using remote port 80 (HTTP - World Wide Web). Do you want to allow this program to access the network?"
If you accidently block WebRunner, you will not be able to get online. If you clicked the checkbox next to Remember my answer, and do not ask me again for this application when you blocked WebRunner, you will have to unblock it from within the Sygate Personal Firewall program in order to get online.

To unblock WebRunner:
1. Double-click on the Sygate Personal Firewall icon in your system tray, located in the lower-right hand corner of the screen.
2. Click the Applications button.
3. Click on WebRunner in the application list to select it.
4. Right click WebRunner and select Allow.
5. Click OK.
6. Click the X in the upper-right hand corner of the window to close Sygate Personal Firewall.

Tiny Personal Firewall

We determined during testing that Tiny Personal Firewall v3.0.5 is not compatible with WebRunner. If you want to continue using WebRunner, you will need to uninstall or disable Tiny Personal Firewall prior to signing on to our service.

ZoneAlarm

If you are using ZoneAlarm and are having difficulties connecting, then the security setting on your Firewall program may be set to a level that is too restrictive.

Having your security settings at a level that is too restrictive will interfere with your ability to use our service. In order to successfully connect to our service, you will need to change the Internet security setting of ZoneAlarm to a setting that is compatible with any dial-up ISP, usually Medium.
1. Open the orange ZoneAlarm control panel.
2. Click on the Security button.
3. Move the Local and Internet sliders to Medium.
4. Click on the Security button again to close the screen.

Other Firewall Programs

If you have a firewall not listed above, try the following steps:
1. Go to your firewall's settings option.
2. Look for a list of applications that are allowed or prevented access to the Internet.
3. Look for WebRunner. If either of these programs are blocked or prevented access to the Internet, select them and change their setting to be allowed access.
4. Save your changes and restart your firewall program.

Using the Exclusion List

The exclusion list feature enables you to tell WebRunner to not accelerate specific Web sites. This is useful if you regularly visit sites that have special features which do not work properly when accelerated by WebRunner. Using the exclusion list provides an alternative to temporarily disabling WebRunner each time you visit these sites.

To bypass WebRunner for certain Web sites:
1. Right-click the WebRunner icon in the system tray at the lower right of your screen and select Settings.
2. When the settings box appears, click on the Exclusion List tab.
3. To exclude a Web site and all its associated pages, type an asterisk and a period (*.) followed by the domain of the address (e.g. *.webrunner.net) into the text box. If you wish to exclude more than one URL, separate them with semi-colons.
4. When finished, click OK.
5. Exit and restart WebRunner. The sites you entered will now be excluded from WebRunner acceleration.

Uninstalling WebRunner

1. Go to your Windows Start menu, select Settings and then choose Control Panel.
2. From the Control Panel, double-click Add/Remove Programs.
3. Scroll down in the box that appears until you see WebRunner and select it.
4. Click the Add/Remove button.
Please note that uninstalling the software will not automatically stop you from being billed for the WebRunner service. If you wish to discontinue the WebRunner service, you must call Customer Support at 1-877-914-6987
